Honest Reflections Scare Me Sometimes

A friend sent me a journal entry to read today, as she wanted honest feedback. I read it and choked back tears at the raw honesty poured out on the page. God has been prompting her to dig deep. To go beyond the surface in her relationship with Him and interaction with people, and she took it seriously.

I’m not sure I can be that vulnerable, but I'm willing to try. Looking at ourselves is tough in the best of times, but digging deep, discovering WHY we do certain things, checking our motives—well, let’s just say it’s oftentimes easier to sidestep those areas.

In the next few posts I’m going to share a few thoughts on what makes me tick, and I invite you to do the same. They won’t be long or even very sophisticated, but I promise to keep it real. If anything I write resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Maybe I’m the only one who struggles with being real, but I’m guessing that’s not the case.

The book I’m writing  has made me dig deeper. I’m dealing with the issue of a difficult mother/daughter relationship. The daughter is grown, the mother is aging, and Mama comes to live with her daughter. Sometimes the closest family connections can bring out the best—or the worst in us. At the very least they can cause us to look more deeply into who we are and why we act the way that we do.

So I invite you to come along on the ride if you dare. More in a few days…..

Miralee, I was intrigued by your name. I'll bet you've never heard that before. I'll tell you why. My first name is Ferrell, yes it is and I have some good friends whose last name is Ferrell. When I first met them the woman asked me if that was a family name and that may have been the reason I was named Ferrell. No it wasn't but my mother knew a woman long before she had me who was named Ferrell. Just because that is my first name and your last name is not the reason the name intrigued me. It was your first name and the combination of your last name. I had a cousin who once told me she wished I had been named Ferrel Lee. My name was originally spelled with only one L. If my middle name had been Lee I could have been called Ferrellee (all one word). I was on a quilting blog once and my name for that was Ferrellee. I've often used it in other instances too. I really like the sound of it and I even wish that my grand children would name a child after me and possiblily call her Ferrellee. That is why your name intrigued me. You are Miralee and I am not Ferrellee but would like to be.
Another reason I'm writing to you is what you said in this blog subject. Several years ago my mother came to live with me and I came to know her as I had never known her before. So if you are going to write in your blog about aging mothers I may want to join in some of your discussion of that subject. So I'll be checking back on your blog every so often. I'm also going to try to find out if my library has any of your books. That is the way I get my reading material. I hope find some of them there as Christian books are the only kind I want to read anymore
Sincerely, Ferrell Hinds in California.

Ferrell, I enjoyed hearing from you and learning about your unique name. Thank you so much for stopping by! My dad made up my name while trying to think of things that would go with lee at the end. I've always loved it, although it does tend to get mangled quite often, LOL!

I only write Christian fiction, so I'm glad that's what you enjoy reading. I have six books in print, two contemporary women's fiction and four historical romance (with a suspense thread, and a lot of libraries carry them or you can order them through the system.

I talk about a lot of different things on my blog, but if you have something specific that you'd like to hear discussed I'd love your suggestions. You can also subscribe to my blog so you don't miss out.

Thank you again!

Miralee, I sure do understand about your name getting mangled. I get so much mail addressed to Mr. Ferrell Hinds. In high school, oh so many years ago my registration card was always sent to the boys gym class and I always had to go retreive it at the beginning of each semester. After many years of marriage I went into business for my self and set up my own identity and then problems with being mistaken for a male person began all over again. That is another reason I wish I was Ferrellee instead of Ferrell and why I ago ahead and use it as I used it to sign in to a Google acct.
Thank you for letting me share my name problems with you. I have been able to request a book by you from the library. They only had one availabe so, after I read it I'll see what I would like to do about obtaining more.
Ferrell or Ferrellee as of now.

It's fun that you're able to use the name you like on various 'boards'. Thank you for ordering one of my books from the library. I'm curious as to which one they had available?
