Exiting News!!

I got some very exciting news today about my upcoming book release, Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon, a historical romance. Main line publishers (both secular and Christian) send their new releases to Romantic Times Review Magazine in hopes of getting a good review. It does all genres, not just romances, and they're highly respected in the industry.

The highest numerical rating a book can get is 4 1/2 stars and my new book received 4 1/2 stars. But beyond that, it also was awarded Top Pick, meaning the reviewer felt that everyone should read it. Romantic Times often gives no top pick awards during any given month, and at most might give 3, so this is considered a very high honor.

Here's what the reviewer had to say:

Summary: Turn-of-the-century schoolteacher Margaret Garvey grieves over the loss of her father and her home. But she still manages to contribute to the well-being of the community, while several young men wish to court her and win her heart. Then she risks everything by taking in two young runaways—only to learn that they may be involved in murder and sabotage of the local sawmill. Can Margaret clear her head and heart to make the most important decisions of her life?

New Book: Faith & Finances

Jesus spoke about money and material possessions more than he talked about heaven, hell, or prayer. He noted the relationship between a man's heart and his wallet, warning, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be." This contemporary retelling of the Rich Young Ruler brings a fresh look at the relationship between a person's faith and their finances.

Within the pages of Faith & FINANCES: In God We Trust you'll find spiritual insight and practical advice from Christy award winning writer Ann Tatlock, plus best selling authors, Loree Lough, Yvonne Lehman, Ginny Smith, Irene Brand, DiAnn Mills, Miralee Ferrell, and Shelby Rawson.

Great faith calls us to trust God, not our wealth. Read how others have cast off the golden handcuffs and learned to live the abundant life Jesus promised in this contemporary retelling of the Rich Young Ruler. Faith & FINANCES: In God We Trust, A Journey to Financial Dependence - turning the hearts of a nation back toward God one paycheck at a time.

"Our church wanted to begin a one million dollar building project. Many of the members were nervous about spending that kind of money in such tight economic times. But our congregation met and the finance board distributed several Faith and FINANCES devotions from Christian Devotions Ministry. Then we prayed. That night we collected $750,000 in checks, cash and promise notes. The Faith and FINANCES devotions spoke to a congregation of people who feared the economy, but trusted in God." - Barbara D.

God is My Stimulus Package

God is My Stimulus Package
by DiAnn Mills

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:5-6

I remember the bleak day I realized I had enough food for two more days. I had no money and no job. How would I take care of my four young sons? I tried to pray, but fear hung suspended in my mind and choked any semblance of words. I wanted to cry, but realized that once I started, the tears might never end. Single parenting and children who had more needs than I could fill, paralyzed my thoughts.

Swallowing my pride, I phoned my parents in another state. Perhaps they'd take the boys until I got on my feet. The thought of parting with them made me physically ill. They had already dealt with abandonment issues from their father's recent departure, and I knew being separated from me would increase their insecurities-and mine.

After the phone call and the news that they felt something good would happen soon, I painted a smile on my face and went through the motions of preparing the boys' dinner. The doorbell rang, interrupting my silent prayer for faith. A middle-aged woman stood there, looking somewhat perplexed and nervous.

"Can I help you?" My voice released staggering emotions.

She nodded and gave me a faint smile. "I think so. God told me that the family living here needs food. I have my station wagon full of groceries."

My boys rushed to her vehicle and helped carry in bag after bag. Not since Christmas had they been so excited. Me either, for that matter.

God had sent an angel to feed my family! The food in those grocery bags fed us for a long time. Every item was something I would have purchased, even special treats. This blessing marked the beginning of many. Within a week I found a job directing a day care center, and my children never went hungry or without care. The true treasure was the provision of our faithful Father who ensured that our family never had to be separated.

My Books Are Here!!

Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon

I just had to share...a wonderful woman at Summerside Press named Suzi made it possible for my books to arrive prior to Christmas. My author copies of Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon arrived yesterday afternoon. They're absolutely gorgeous!!!

One of the reasons I'm so happy about this is that I can give my mother and kids one for Christmas. Bridal Veil includes some of our own family history. My great grandfather worked for the Bridal Veil Lumbering Co. for 6 yrs during the same era that my book takes place. His team of horses was considered one of the best tree hauling teams in the state.

I used Art Gibbs (his real name) as a strong secondary character in the book, using his horses, his dog that he owned at the time, and his occupation. What fun to include a family member who accurately fit into the time period and story!

I hope you'll all consider buying a copy of my book...it's on a special preorder price right now on Amazon.

I'm Stumped!! Contest Again

Sunflower Serenade
by Tricia Goyer

I'm stumped. I put this contest on my blog a few wks ago and just realized I didn't finalize the drawing and give out the book. I had about 8 people leave comments and the blog post is GONE...along with the comments. I have no idea how that could happen, but there's no record of the post.

I had stated in the rules that I needed at least 10 entries to give the book away and didn't get that, so I'm going to post this and try one more time. Hopefully, this time it will retain all the comments & I'll be able to draw a name.

I read this book and enjoyed getting acquainted with the characters in this small town. It was full of family love, glimpses into the heart of a county fair and lots of fun. I'm sure you'll enjoy reading this book by Tricia. Just leave a comment and you'll be entered.

This book was given to me by the publisher to read and give away. I didn't pay for it, nor did anyone pay me for my opinion. There is no purchase necessary to win this copy.

The Biggest Loser---Is that You?

There's been a lot of hype lately about the finale of the popular reality show, The Biggest Loser. In fact, I like the show and have watched it faithfully for 3 yrs now. Why? It inspires me. Yes, I'll admit I've sat in my chair watching while munching on chips and drinking a Pepsi, but I've also watched while working out on my Gazelle and weight bench.

Christmas is coming and so many people feel like they're The Biggest Loser...and I'm not talking about weight loss. It's a season where any loss comes back to haunt you doubly hard. Maybe you've lost a spouse to death or divorce, or a child ran away or was killed, or someone you love has gotten trapped in drugs or alcohol. Possibly you had a horrible childhood and money was tight, so Christmas intensified the stress your parents were under and it kicked back on you.

Regardless of your situation, you don't have to feel like the biggest loser, because God is on your side. That's right. On YOUR side. The bible says "If God be for us, who can be against us?" Sure. Sometimes it feels like everyone's against us, and God's forgotten our address. But He hasn't. Most of the time we're the one who's taken the steps away from Him...He promised to never leave us or forsake us, but He also expects us to seek Him. So if you're feeling lonely this year, or old memories are coming back to haunt you, remember the One who came to earth so many years ago, that you could have perfect peace.

Peace. Not happiness, peace. Joy. Abundant life. Those are what He promises if only we'll reach out and touch the hem of his garment. He's there for you. Just call on His name.

I'm reading this book and it grabbed me right at the beginning. I love historical fiction, and know I'm not going to be disappointed with this new offering by Summerside Press. It's one of many "Love Finds You" books, all set in real towns (or ghost towns) in the U.S. Each stands alone, but each presents a romance depicted in a unique way. Some authors use comedy, some suspense, some prairie romance, and all are exceptional fiction. Be sure to pick up your own copy of this new release. You won't be disappointed!!
